Robischon Gallery artist Ana María Hernando is a part of a seminal new exhibition, ‘New Worlds: Women to Watch 2024,’ opening this Sunday, April 14th at the National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Hernando’s work, titled, ‘Nadar en el diluvio de aguas caldas / To Swim in the Deluge of Warm Waters,’ will be on view at the museum until August 11, 2024. Born in Argentina, the Colorado artist recently concluded an exuberant outdoor site-specific installation for New York’s Madison Square Park, titled, ‘Dejar que el cielo sepa / To let the sky know,’ in celebration of MSP’s important anniversary and recently published volume; ‘Public Art in Public Spaces: Twenty Years Advancing Work in New York’s Madison Square Park’. This 256-page commemorative hardcover volume is now available featuring Hernando and such art luminaries as Ursula von Rydingsvard, Martin Puryear, and Maya Lin, and Robischon Gallery represented artists Gibson + Recorder, and previously exhibited artist Jessica Stockholder.
 

As a multidisciplinary artist, my work focuses on the feminine, using empathy to make the invisible visible and to question our preconceptions of the “other,” their worth, and value. Though we are constantly bombarded with urgent, hard-to-hold, awful news, there are small gestures infused with kindness, perseverance, hope, and clarity all around us like waterfalls. However, if we allow ourselves to be buried in sorrow, hopelessness, and disappointment, we can miss them. This is why I want to celebrate these quiet actions, bringing them into the light for us to be nourished by them. The hope of a new world brings renewal to every cell inside me.

A new world is one where nobody is invisible, where our interconnectedness is felt in our bones. In a new world, lies would be diluted by the boldness of those overflowing with generosity, who have committed themselves to the very long view of caring and wisdom, those who set a path forward toward the humbleness of real power.
