Preeminent, internationally renowned French sculptor, Bernar Venet's six-decade career is the subject of an extensive exhibition originating earlier this year at Beijing's Phoenix Center, and currently on view now at the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou, China. Titled "Beyond Concept and Matter", the major retrospective features over 90 artworks and covers 60 years of the artist's development. Presenting Venet's important work, ranging from early tar paintings and industrial sculptures to large-scale steel arcs and mathematical drawings, the exhibition is a reflection of the artist's in-depth explorations of order, logic, and materiality. The expansive and impressive museum exhibition considers the intersections of concept and form - focusing on Venet’s groundbreaking investigation of the tension between order and chance.
