Noted Robischon artist Kim Dickey has recently completed an impressive permanent installation at the Baird Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her early work titled “Parterra” was originally designed for the 2012 Biennial of the Americas where it was located on the floor of the Denver International Airport's main terminal. “Parterre,” French for “above the ground,” references the shaped patterns of formal gardens often appreciated from a distance, and as originally presented, suggested an aerial view. During Dickey’s expansive survey exhibition titled "Words are Leaves" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver in 2016 and 2017, "Parterre" was creatively wall-mounted to demonstrate the potency of perspective, inspiring its now current, permanent Wisconsin installation. Previously exhibited in 2015 at Robischon Gallery, prior to MCA's “Words are Leaves," Dickey presented "Claustrum (Cloister)" featuring many of her enthralling flora and fauna sculptures alongside her patterned geometric series, inspired by prominent minimalist Robert Morris. Invoking the architectural form of a medieval cloistered garden through topiaries covered in green quatrefoil shapes, and in her simultaneous ongoing woodland creatures series, the artist continues to explore nature, culture and memory through a poetic and contemplative stance.
