Full of curiosities and eccentricities, the work of Robischon artist Fred Stonehouse defies the idyllic, as he creates hybrid creatures that drolly emphasize the dissonance between human and animal, sacred and sacrilegious. Stonehouse’s enigmatic work is currently on view at the Museum of Wisconsin Art in his solo exhibition “No Agenda.” Over the past sixteen years as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Fred Stonehouse has approached his monthly faculty meetings with his signature humor and unwavering wit, filling his time by drawing his signature figures and forming the collection that comprises his current solo exhibition. Stonehouse again blurs boundaries as aspects from the professional setting enter his otherworldly compositions.
