September of 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of globally preeminent artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s iconic transformation of Paris’ Pont Neuf—a landmark moment in contemporary art.
In 1985, the visionary duo enveloped the oldest bridge in Paris with 45,700 square yards of luminous, golden-hued woven polyamide fabric, secured with 8 miles of rope and over 12 tons of steel chains. The widely celebrated 'Pont Neuf Wrapped' stood for just two weeks, yet remains etched in cultural memory as a bold meditation on ephemerality, scale, and urban space.
To commemorate the lasting impact of this ephemeral work, the city of Paris unveils Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Paris Projects —an open-air exhibition along the Seine from September through October 2025. In tribute to the artists’ enduring connection to the city, the square surrounding the statue of Henri IV on the Île de la Cité will be formally renamed Place du Pont-Neuf—Christo et Jeanne-Claude; a fitting homage to these distinguished artists who forever redefined the possibilities of public art.
Robischon Gallery presented extensive exhibitions of Christo's dynamic conceptual and process drawings in the early 2000s, with the artists in attendance - surrounding Christo and Jeanne-Claude's second Colorado endeavor, titled 'Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado,' as well as vibrant large-scale drawings of their fully realized project titled 'The Gates, Central Park, New York City.' Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s awe-inspiring works continue to captivate and inspire international audiences years after their de-installation.
