INTERVALS

Robischon Gallery is pleased to present “INTERVALS,” a genre-spanning group exhibition of archived works from twenty-four, distinctive gallery artists. Ranging in proportion from grand to diminutive, the artworks of shifting size offer experiential entrance into the in-between where scale presents insight into different ways of seeing. From the bold intuitive brushwork of the large Claire Sherman paintings to her suite of small watercolor studies, the artist illustrates the uniquely different realms existing within the oeuvre of a single artist. Similar dialogues ignite between artists such as the colorful complexity of Amy Ellingson’s oil and encaustic paintings placed near Jae Ko’s vividly hued, materially intriguing wall sculptures. The inky graphite-over-plaster Alison Hall paintings have rich meaning rooted in both architecture and a reverence for the Madonna of Italian chapels. In proximity, Hall’s minimal black paintings serve as a dynamic counterpoint to the explosive abstraction of the vast Barbara Takenaga work. Pard Morrison’s potent pink painting with a grid-like composition selectively activates elements of the neighboring exhibited artworks where chromatic resonance, spatial dimensionality, and linear formality unite. Similarly, in the Viewing Room Gallery an astonishing Christian Rex van Minnen painting amplifies the provocative surrounding works in charged juxtaposition to van Minnen’s large and captivating figure. Through painting, sculpture, and prints, in consideration of landscape, abstraction, and figural subjects, all of the accomplished artists on view in “INTERVALS” extend an invitation to cross the threshold to explore myriad interpretations through scale.
