ANN HAMILTON / Lower Manhattan Cortlandt Street Station
Ann Hamiliton’s commission for the Lower Manhattan Cortlandt Street subway station on the No. 1 line - which was completely destroyed on September 11, 2001 - will fill approximately 70 percent of the station’s walls with a poetic interwoven text. Hamilton’s embossed-text installation will be nearly all white - an aesthetic established by the principal architect, Santiago Calatrava. The Cordlandt Street subway station will reopen in 2018.
